Dedicated to the memory of our Uncle Jimmy who passed away on 04/20/72...
"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things that escape those who only dream by night"—Edgar Allen Poe Looking at the dirt that still remains on my uncle's cleats, I found the inspiration to start my debut album. I used my first real guitars on this one, a Gibson Paul and an Ovation. I loved singing with my dad on this—Dad this one's for you!

Don Acoustic, Electric & Nylon String Guitars, Percussion & Vocals. Donald Francis McAvoy Background Vocals and song title. Don McAvoy & Andy Starr: Engineers. Produced by: Don McAvoy. Mixed by Andy Starr at Evening Star Studios.

At 3rd Base And Heading For Home
(© 1993 Don McAvoy, MMP, Inc., ASCAP )

* Now Jimmy was gonna be the star of my family
But God retired his number early,
took his uniform but not his philosophy
Now Jimmy he could throw, faster than anyone will ever know
But his best was his grip, on his dreams he wouldn't let go
He said "What else would I have to show?"
** "In this life you only get one solid chance
to make what you love last"
*** When you're at third base you head for home
Know you'll never, ever play this game alone
When you're up or down follow the bases around
Always hit that ball like you want it all. . .tonight!
* In my dad's garage his cleats hang on a nail
In memory of a legend from the pitcher's mound
He lived for two sounds "one the roar of the crowd
And a fine young girl saying I'll buy you a round."
One thing you can say is Jimmy knew his place
His love for life read like a map on his face
By keeping the batters all off of the base
He won his race: Jimmy's pace, Jimmy's way
