Bio
The original music of Don McAvoy & The Great Whatever® (“DMCGW”) is a 30 plus year musical mystery tour filled with surprisingly relatable music with catchy hooks, lyrics and vocals and a whole lot of fun!
DMCGW’s music is a genre-bending rollercoaster of upbeat and relatable original tunes (considered “Future Cover Music” by unknown and unnamed industry experts) where catchy riffs and vocal harmonies sonically collide with pop and rock energy, and where folky and country melodies intertwine with soaring power ballads with the occasional polka thrown in for good measure! They are like peanut butter and pickles served with a mug of beer – an unexpected, delicious, and slightly offbeat combination that somehow works!
So, why "The Great Whatever" ? Because their original music is exactly that: a big, beautiful, messy, unpredictable ‘’Whatever’’ that grabs you by the collar and won't let go until you are singing their songs to yourself for weeks to come! …{our big hope…}
The duo version of DMCGW features the talents of:

Don McAvoy (Vocals and Various Instruments):
Imagine Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, but with a mortgage, a microphone and a penchant for dad jokes and cheap beer. A ‘’Frontman Extraordinaire’’ whose voice is smoother than a used car salesman's promises and whose lyrics will be your ‘’earworm’’ for weeks to come! Don is the guy who still thinks dial-up internet is cutting edge and who once tried to pay for a pizza with a mixtape. He is the Analog Man in The Digital World!
Marc Arot (Bass Guitar and Vocals):
The bass-wielding backbone of the band. His basslines are smooth as buttered toast, his backing vocals surprisingly angelic, and his dance moves…well, let's just say they haven't evolved much since Disco was king. He is the yin to Don's yang. He is the guy who can tell you the history of 80’s College Radio while laying down a groove so smooth it will make your cat purr (and your dog snore)! Marc is also the guy who keeps the band grounded, and is the organizational glue that keeps Don from playing gigs at the local laundromat (unless the pay is too good or there’s free beer)!
Shows: Their live shows are legendary for debuting a new original song at every show, for crowd participation and for their blend of energetic foot-stomping anthems, harmonious vocals, and awkward silences during Marc's rambling stage stories. Let’s not forget Don’s occasional impromptu kazoo solo (no one knows why, but it's always a highlight)!
Aside from their shows DMCGW are currently in the recording studio working on more songs and videos.
So come on down to a Don McAvoy & The Great Whatever® show or watch their videos or download / stream their songs. DMCGW’s music is where the drinks are cheap, the laughs are loud, and the music is guaranteed to be fun, new, and original and... well, Whatever! They’re not sure of what’s coming next but they’re hoping that you’ll accompany them in some way on their musical mystery tour!
